DeLorean reimagined as a bold electric vehicle made for tough terrains

by Gaurav Sood

The most anticipated electric car of the decade is finally going to hit the tarmac in August later this year, and I can’t wait already. Yes, the iconic DMC DeLorean sports car that defined the pop culture of the 1980s and spilled far beyond just a couple of decades of fame is going to now be resurrected as an EV model. Earlier in the year, the gull-winged silhouette of the upcoming DeLorean excited all automotive fans, and now they’ve dropped a very clear half shot of the car’s rear, and a press release to keep all speculations alive. So, I can confidently say, the DeLorean is going to be back in the future!

The iconic car is in fact all set to hit the limelight on August 18, 2022, at the prestigious Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. From what we see in the teaser image, the EV is going to follow the norm with a modern silhouette and this concept gives our imagination wings. If we ignore the rear that looks more akin to the Bugatti Chiron, the EV could be pretty similar to what we see in these renders. A bold form factor with an intimidating front could be on the cards. The side profile has to be sharp and flowing with a supercar-like domineer but slightly bend towards the coupe persona too. As per Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc,0 “Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach.”

Designer: Recom Farmhouse, Kate Brown and Marvin Lübke

The shining silver hue of the Delorean in the official teased image signals a very Tesla Model 3 like skin for the DeLorean, and that’s absolutely understandable. The slightly darker hues of the concept pictured here could be another color option for the buyers. The renders of the DeLorean pictured in the valley of Wadi Rum desert is an indicator of the hyped car’s anticipation amongst the cult followers who want to own anything linked to Back to the Future movie.

To The Batcave: Batmobile Inspired Motorcycle Trike

batmobile-trike-1.jpg This is the Tim Burton inspired Batmobile motorcycle trike built by Game Over Cycles in Portland, Oregon. They did a great job. Now Batman needs to get a custom t-shirt with "IF YOU CAN READ THIS, ROBIN FELL OFF' printed on the back. He should probably get a Catwoman version too. Keep going for several more shots, then somebody buy a motorcycle with a sidecar and I'll ride in the sidecar and throw candy like we're part of a never-ending parade.

Mad Max's Imperator Furiosa Gets The Unbreakable Theme Song She Deserves

by Rob Bricken

Females are strong as hell, whether they’ve lived most of their lives in a bomb shelter sequestered from humanity or are driving a giant war-rig across the post-apocalyptic wasteland. So it makes sense that someone would modify The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s theme song to suit Fury Road’s star.

Watch Iron Man hand-deliver a child's 3D-printed, bionic arm and try not tear up

by Ben Kuchera

First, Robert Downey Jr. continues to be one of the coolest people in the world.

Honored to present a bionic #IronMan arm to Alex through @MSOneNote’s #CollectiveProject. Check the bowtie. #dapper https://t.co/lhLG5g1RP8

Secondly, this video is the work of The Collective Project, and while the addition of Hollywood talent in the arm's presentation gives a ton of PR value, the work being done by Albert Manero and Limbitless Solutions is just as interesting. The group is making affordable, 3D-printed prosthetics for children ... and then giving away the plans so others can do the same.

Here's a quick bit of background from the Microsoft blog:

The Soapbox: Six reasons MMOs should abandon raiding, part 2

by Eliot Lefebvre

Filed under: Game Mechanics, Endgame, Opinion, The Soapbox, Miscellaneous, Dungeons

Time to take on the stock.
In yesterday's Soapbox, I had some things to say about why it's time to dump raiding. I'm writing this before I've seen the comment responses, but I'm willing to bet that a fair amount of angry shouting was involved in the comments because that's what I usually expect. But I wasn't done, as suggested by the whole "part 1" thing in the title header.

For those don't feel like reading the whole thing, the short version is that raiding is too expensive to develop for too small a portion of the players. This is a solid argument, but it's standard: You hear it every time this debate comes up. In some ways, it's the foundation of the argument against raiding beyond the reality that most people say they just don't like raiding.

There's more to be said, though, and there are more serious issues up for discussion. Raiding isn't just expensive in terms of development. It's expensive in lots of ways.

The Soapbox: Six reasons MMOs should abandon raiding, part 1

    by Eliot Lefebvre

Filed under: Game Mechanics, Endgame, Opinion, The Soapbox, Miscellaneous, Dungeons

Sorry, Truce. You deserve better, but you get this.
Raiding is no longer doing MMOs any favors.

I've compared raiding to open PvP in the past, and the comparison still holds up. It's something that a lot of games developed in response to a specific genre-defining game have featured. But it's not doing those games any favors, and it might be time to take a hard look at this gameplay element that games survive in spite of rather than because of. If we learn nothing else from WildStar's issues when it launched into what should have been an ideal environment, it's that raiding certainly isn't driving players into a game's waiting arms.

But I don't want to just say that and let it roll around on the floor. Let's actually break the argument down across a couple of articles this week. Why does raiding need to shuffle off of the main stage, definitely as the default endgame model, perhaps altogether? I can give you six good reasons.

      Marriage

People often say that same-sex marriage now is like interracial marriage in the 60s. But in terms of public opinion, same-sex marriage now is like interracial marriage in the 90s, when it had already been legal nationwide for 30 years.

      Watches

Old people used to write obnoxious thinkpieces about how people these days always wear watches and are slaves to the clock, but now they've switched to writing thinkpieces about how kids these days don't appreciate the benefits of an old-fashioned watch. My position is: The word 'thinkpiece' sounds like a word made up by someone who didn't know about the word 'brain'.

Relic is moving the Dawn of War series' multiplayer to Steam

      by Jordan Devore

In these final days before GameSpy shuts down its support for a wide range of multiplayer games, here's how Relic Entertainment is handling the situation for its Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. The franchise is being updated to use Company of Heroes 2's multiplayer backend, meaning not only will it continue to function, it'll come out of this mess "improved."

The first Dawn of War and its expansions already underwent an update, on May 22, to keep multiplayer going post-GameSpy by switching to Steam. And while Relic is at it, it'll be separating Dawn of War II and its Chaos Rising expansion from Games for Windows Live. "This migration is in progress and we'll have more details soon," says design lead Philippe Boulle.

"In the short term, there are likely to be some technical issues with the new setup," continued Boulle. "Recreating the multiplayer infrastructure for seven titles is no small feat, and there will be bugs. Ultimately, we felt that it would be better to get the update out in a slightly imperfect state in time to prevent an outright interruption in multiplayer play. So, bugs."

Nice! I'd love to replay the Dawn of War II games again, one day.

An Instant Slide Makes Stairs Even Better Than a Firehouse Pole

Any kid lucky enough to live in a two-story house will quickly figure out how to turn it into an indoor all-weather slide. Whether that's using a piece of cardboard as a sled, or simply by putting on a few extra pairs of undies for padding and bouncing down on their keester. But soon, thanks to the SlideRider, there could be another way.
